Shield Dwarf is a Subrace of Dwarf in Baldur's Gate 3. Shield Dwarf has both Medium and Light Armor Proficiencies. While creating your Character in Baldur's Gate 3, you can choose between 11 different types of Races. Each of them has their special characteristics and some of them have Sub-Races which provide different Features and Traits.
- BG3 Full Game Note: In the full launch of Baldur's Gate 3, Ability Score Points for Races that were present in Early Access are removed. And instead, Ability Score Points in the full game correspond with the Class players will choose.
Shield dwarves survived a long fall from grace, surrendering many of their ancient kingdoms in wars with goblins and orcs. These losses have lead to a cynical mindset, yet shield dwarves will endure anything to restore their ancestral homelands.
Shield Dwarf Traits in Baldur's Gate 3

Shield Dwarf Tips & Notes
- During Early Access, the Shield Dwarf race used to feature +2 Constitution and +2 Strength. This has been changed in the full launch of BG3 and the Ability Score points are now associated with the Class that players will choose.

Good for pure castes who don't get armor proficiency, otherwise if you want to play as a dwarf I don't know why you would go shield over the other two.

usually u should go with shield dwarf if you want a dwarf fighter but thanks to larian's latest changes they are useless unless you want to do magic stuff with medium armor.

Shield Dwarf does not get anything on level up. The only thing unique about them is the light/medium armor proficiency, shield proficiency, and a dialogue tag. They are decent sorcerers/wizards/warlocks/ as now you don't need to multiclass in order to get those proficiencies but beyond that they have less utility than a human.

So now we have absolutely no reason for shield dwarf fighter or barbarian. Great.

Do they get anything later on like the Duergar or is this just straight up trash now?
