Lump the Enlightened Dialogue Options

  • Once approached, Lump asks if you are friend or foe, or food or not food. If you have been branded by True Soul Gut and show him the brand, he won't attack you. You can also use Deception to convince him that you are one of the Absolute's chosen disciples and he will deem you a friend.
  • You can convince him to work for you instead of the goblins. You can offer him gold, or you can pass a check to persuade him. If you manage to do so, you will receive Lump's War Horn from him. Use it to summon the ogres at any battle up to three times (if he is paid or persuaded to defer payment).
  • Alternatively, you can decide to fight him and his two allies, Fank and Chock. Lump the Enlightened drops the Warped Headband of Intellectone of the best items currently in the game.

Dialogue

Stranger: be you friend or food? The mark is Her measure: show us the brand of the Absolute.

  • Note: Additional dialogue options are available based on your character.
  1. [ELF] You speak with an eloquence unusual to your kind.
  2. You're quite eloquent for an ogre.
  3. I bear no such brand.
  4. [DECEPTION] I'll do you one better - I'm one of the Absolute's chosen disciples
  5. Attack.
  • Option 1: If you choose the first or second option, he will continue to call you a delicacy and you can still respond with the other options.
  • Option 2: Admit you don't have the brand and he will deem you food which will trigger a battle.
  • Option 3: Use Deception if you don't have the brand and he will be convinced you are a friend.

Continue conversing with him and you will eventually have the option to say:

  1. Forget goblins. You should be fighting for me.

Pass the checks that follow the dialogue and you can convince him to agree, Shadowheart and Karlach will approve.

After three battles if he was/is paid for his services he asks to "taste" the player as a parting gift. Should the player agree or not Lump will depart and no longer respond to the war horn.

As another poster pointed out, the fight will immediately end and the Ogre's will disappear into a poof cloud just like the ones they leave behind when you recruit them if: you summon them, attack them, and disable them in a way one of them can no-longer fight. I feared one that wielded a club, he dropped the club, and the immediate disappearing act occurred. This will cost you the headband and their XP.

After the fight another Dialog happens and then they disappeard, anyone knows where i can find them again ? :(

        • Anonymous

So I have an interesting anecdote, not sure what it means but perhaps someone who wants to test it more could find out:

I decided to kill the ogres after getting my 3 battles out of them. I knew they couldn't climb ladders so I moved my whole party to a small ledge in the Shattered Sanctum while the ogres finished the goblins, figuring I could attack them from range since only Lump could reach me. After the dialogue with Lump, all of the ogres appeared on the small platform with my party. I killed Lump with melee attacks then had the party all jump off the platform leaving the other two ogres up there. I then cast Hunger of Hadar on the platform, after a single turn, the combat ended and the bodies of the other two ogres disappeared but Lump was still there and could be looted.

It seems that the game just sort of "forfeits" the fight if the other two ogres cannot reach you, but I didn't test this enough to see what's really going on.

Doesn't show in Act 3, or Act 2 - The horn MUST be used in Act 1. If you do NOT use it, then all it is, is a fancy camp decoration. Your character will say "I'm far beyond Ogre ears." after attempting to use it in ether Act 2 or 3. Gonna test later if you use the horn to summon them so they kill boss hogboblin in the camp and the camp doesn't aggro to you/player. Whether you use them for gaining the Horn as a camp decoration/unique item, and then killing them for the headband, or ACTUALLY use them for assistance, they, as above, MUST be used in Act 1 - NOT ANYWHERE in the Mountain Path, OR the Underdark - The ONLY region that counts is the first one. Additionally, it can be done at ANY time, even AFTER the Druid's Grove, or Goblin Camp has been wiped out and you had your party. If at ANY point you summoned the Ogre's, and do NOT fulfill your end of the bargain struck - for example, corpses for work, they will turn on you BEFORE they fight the three times. Ya'll been warned. Kinda dumb given the entrance to Goblin Camp/Mountain path are adjacent, and it still doesn't work even that close, but... eh?

Seems like it doesn't work when you use it in act 3 (Ogres are too far away they can't hear my call). Forgot about it and just tried (in and out of combat). Well too bad won't get the headband on Gale :(
I don't know if it works in act 2

Patch #1: You can just persuade them to summon them when the need arises and after they died you can loot the headband off of them. Tested in Act 1: After summoning them without any enemies around they got angry and fought me. I killed them and got the headband and some book as loot.

Summoned them for the Goblin Camp fight. Killed them and got no exp before they aggroed. Killed them after aggroing and still no exp. Wiped the camp, fought them afterwards when he talked to me, and still no exp. Reloaded a save back in the Blighted Village, killed them there, and got 75 exp each.

Does he level up with your character as you progress? And does anyone know if my loot on bodys is safe i choose to feed the corpses of enemies persuade option instead of the gold one?

                      • Anonymous

Frenzied Berserker gets unique diagloge options to intimidate where they just roar at the Ogres. There are two, one to not be viewed as food, and one to not pay Gold for the deal with the warhorn. You get the Warhorn deal for free and then if you kill them after they are summoned you get the headband.

                        • Anonymous

After summoning him once u can strike a deal with him to use the horn again. At some point in act 2 during a long rest the ogres come to your camp to confront you about the deal

                          • Anonymous

Lump will only drop the warped headband if you use the horn to summon him and then kill him. He won't drop it in blighted village. Confirmed 8/7/23. Summon him first, gith bridge is perfect place to summon after dragon sighting

Killed Lump and he dropped 15 Gold, Scroll of Blur, Salami, The Diary of Lump the Enlightened, Lump's War Horn and Warped Headband of Intellect.

I recruit him, use the horn to help fight the OP Githyanki at the bridge and either loot the corpses after or turn on them after the battle, usually only 1 is left alive.
