Subrace Traits |
Deep Gnome is a Subrace of Gnome in Baldur's Gate 3. Deep Gnome features great vision at night and also possesses the Stone Camouflage. While creating your Character in Baldur's Gate 3, you can choose between 11 different types of Races. Each of them has their special characteristics and some of them have Sub-Races which provide different Features and Traits.
- BG3 Full Game Note: In the full launch of Baldur's Gate 3, Ability Score Points for Races that were present in Early Access are removed. And instead, Ability Score Points in the full game correspond with the Class players will choose.
More guarded than their surface cousins, deep gnomes survive in the Underdark with darkvision and skillful stealth.
Deep Gnome Traits:
- Superior Darkvision: This creature can see in the dark within 24m.
- Stone Camouflage: You have advantage on Stealth checks.
Gnome Features
- Base Racial Speed
- Gnome Cunning: You have advantage on Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma Saving Throws.
Deep Gnome Tips & Notes
- During Early Access, the Gnome race used to feature +2 Intelligence and +1 Dexterity. This has been changed in the full launch of BG3 and the Ability Score points are now associated with the Class that players will choose.

When talking to the Druager in the Underdark they will attack you with no way to interact with them passively unless your a different race like Drow. Even if you do this they treat you like the other Deepgnome slaves. I'll give more info when I reach the Grym Forge.

I'm wondering if stone camouflage is working. My stealth and hiding checks suck. Hiding says I have advantage, but if I fail it never shows me the second roll. Also, when invisible and casting a spell it doesn't show any advantage on my stealth check.

Correction: Deep Gnomes, as they are small, have a speed of only 7.5m. Wouldn't have commented it, but this isn't mentioned on the "base racial speed" page either.

Rolling circle of spores druid deep gnome with chaos morality for my first run inspired by evil garden gnomes and toads
This is one of the best sub-races for a wizard/warlock. Superior darkvision will give you more chances to hit enemies from long spell ranges(12-24m,many spells have around 18m) on places with dark.
Also, Gnome Cunning is amazing to resist control spells that the enemy throws to you.
So as you can see, is a race that allows you to play very safe as a spell caster, and with the long ranges of spell, you don't have to worry that much for the reduced base speed from this race.
