Darts in Baldur's Gate 3 are pieces of equipment that are used to inflict damage against hostile characters such as Enemies and Bosses. Darts are Two-Handed, Finesse, Simple Ranged Weapons in BG3 that can only be two-handed, dealing 1-4 Damage without enchantments. They have a range of 18m, and they deal Piercing Damage. though some special Battleaxes also deal another type of Damage as well. Being a Ranged Weapon, note that you have disadvantage on attack rolls with Darts while Threatened.
Many Darts have unique properties, so you should read carefully what these do, and many also have Weapon Actions that can only be used if you are Proficient with Darts in BG3. This Weapon Action is Brace (Ranged).

For everyone saying they're two handed, it's categorized as that because it goes in your ranged slot. Which means you will have your melee weapon, shield or whatever else still equipped just not your bow.

i do not even know how would you two hand a throwing dart.

These are specifically marked as "two handed" to prevent you from being able to dual-wield darts like you can hand crossbows.
