how to protect yourself from this? brainrats are giving me braincancer with this stupid spell on hit and I have 16(!) wisdom on my endgame barb, and thanks to dnd devs berserk has no immunities from **** like this anymore, nice, with domination spells you can at least kick yourself, but with this you lose rage even being attacked (I guess your char auto turns it off)

It is chaos, and unreliable, but can be potent. Mayhaps best used in fights where you are not instantly screwed when it doesn't perform, but can still gain a lot when it does.

This is a little bit of different CC spells but really unpredictable. Use crown of madness and back away from enemies if you want them to attack each other. Use Slow to significantly reduce move and also drop their ac. Use hypnotize if you want to freeze them for 2 turns. Use banishment or polymorph if you want to remove them from the equation for a couple rounds. Confusion is really hit or miss and unreliable which is why comments are so mixed. Personally I think crown of madness for a level 2 spell slot does what defenders of Confusion boast about; turn enemies against each other. You only need to afflict one enemy with crown of madness and their teammates will treat them as hostile. The crown of madness target attacks whoever is closest so it’s more controllable than confusion in that sense and again only a level 2 slot vs a lvl 4 slot.

          • Embarassing, by reading comments i thought that it's weak spell, but on practice it's one of the best controls in the game and especially good on bard.

It does not work in all fights. Some fights seems to be scripted so even if they have confusion on them it wont work. Its very good in the fights it does work on however.

Very controversial spell. Sometimes it's a life saviour, for example, during creche boss fight 2 giths murdered each other. However sometimes enemies go throughout whole battlefield to reach you. But if this spell is applied on your party member, especially DMG dealer, you're doomed as your confused characters use extremely valuable consumables like potion of speed, or throwables like runepowder flask and then usually erase one your party members from existence.

Hot garbage. Doesn't actually do anything. Enemies get the confused buff but sill only attack you and your party memebers. Spell actually just a waste of a 4th level spell.

Hot garbage spell, enemies who are confused, always still attack me, and they always succeed the saving throw on there turn, its not worth the spell slot

Huge aoe and doesn't hit allies. Might be the best general purpose CC in the game. Hold person is better but only hits people. Same with dominate x. Fear has potential if you can line up the cone to somehow hit multiple enemies and not your allies while still triggering opportunity attacks.
