I banished an enemy and the fight ended while they were still banished and they didn't return. So it seems that if you cast it close to the end of the fight, it's essentially an instant way how to get rid of the enemy

Best use of banish ? Use on a steel watcher starting self detonation. It still dies, but doesn't do any aoe damage. helps prevent unwanted bystander casualties.

You can get some use put of this with metamagic sorceror extend spell for 4 turns

a bit rough to use since enemies still get a turn when they end their banishment, so you need to plan around for that. At the end of the day an upcasted Command spell feels more useful since you can still smack enemies around in the one turn they're actually CC'd.

Spolier :
If you use it on the Magma Elemental in the Maleforge you get an Inspiration pont for Karlach as the game thinks you killed it.
Shame the spell doesn't do as in 5e and banish it for good If concentration is maintained.

frequently simply does not work. enemies will instantly receive then lose the banished condition when they fail their save

The duration on tabletop is 1 minute, so it's odd that it's so short here.

It doesn't even last two turns because it ends at the end of your caster's second turn, the target is only banished for a single turn.

Aw man, was hoping this one would get a bit more to it. At least it still hits CHA saves.

Does this work work for people? For me, the banished target comes back after a few seconds real time, even if you didn't even end your turn...

dont forget it works the other way around, if some enemy archmage banished you, now you still have a fighting chance. espc for low CHA player character (which would be majority).

The Nerf to two turns really hurts the primary use case for banishment, but it makes sense from a balance standpoint.
Morningstar's ability Heartstopper makes the enemy skip its turn (requires save), deals damage recharges on a short rest. Nerfed banishment deals no damage, spends a spell slot and requires a save. So it's basically worse than a common morningstar ability, that you get at the beginnning of the game.
I really hope they will introduce some balance to the game.
